An Interview with Dr.Debasish Kundu

To honor Overwhelming requests we are republishing this interview.

Question:  Where do you get your ideas?

Kundu: I try to draw my idea from real life as much as possible, such as things I notice on the street or conversations I overhear.

Question: The person you admire most ?

Kundu:    My adoptive father Dr.Malik Awan

Question; Is there any new fifth medical science called Electrohomeopathy ?

Kundu: It was a business strategy by some so called Genius, now the whole world knows there's no such seperate medical science. Electrohomeopathy is a term used for Spagyric homeopathy , just see the webpages of Soluna Lab Germany , you will get your answer.

Question: It is said the Electrohomeopathy is based upon Alchemy and has nothing to do with homeopathy?

Kundu: Is it so? well then why this spagyric/electro technique is incorporated in German as well as US homeo Pharmacopoeias?

As regards Alchemy, Why was Alchemy not considered Science? Alchemy was a blend of Pseudoscience, magic, and mystical Philosophy.

One example, time of collection of medicinal herbs as per modern pharmaceutical science and botany

is their flowering season, but alchemist choose this time as according to mystic astrological calculations!!

Today the process of changing one fundamental substance into another is called Nuclear Physics. In the generation of Enriched nuclear fuels one basic substance will "miraculously" change into another.

As per The Skeptic's Dictionary by Robert Todd Caroll, Alchemy is an occult art and pseudoscience.

Its practitioners' main goals have been

1. to turn base metals (like lead or copper) into precious metals (like gold or silver) (the transmutation motif);

2. to create an elixir or potion or metal which could cure all ills (the medical motif), and

3. discover an elixir which would lead to immortality (the transcendence motif).

The magical substance that was to transmute metals, to be the universal panacea and to serve as the key to immortality was called the philosopher's stone.

Alchemy is based on the belief that there are four basic elements : fire, air, earth and water,  and three essentials: salt, sulfur and mercury. Great symbolic and metaphysical systems have been built from these seven pillars of alchemy. Ancient Chinese and Egyptian occult literature are said to be the foundation upon which alchemy is based. Alchemy was very popular in medieval Europe where one of the most sacred books of the alchemists was allegedly written by the Egyptian god Thoth, known as Hermes Trismegistus (Hermes, the thrice-great, was the Greek god who served as a messenger and delivered the souls of the dead to Hades.) In 1455, a manuscript entitled Corpus Hermeticum began circulating in Florence, Italy. It was allegedly a compilation of the alchemical, astrological and magical knowledge of the Egyptian god. However, it is now known that the work was of European origin and dates from  somewhat after the time Thoth prospered. The work is full of magic spells and incantations and other useless occult notions.

Today, the transmutation motif is largely ignored, while the transcendence and medical motifs are still going strong in areas such as homeopathy and  aromatherapy. Many modern alchemists combine their occult art with astrology, acupuncture, hypnosis and a wide variety of New Age spiritual quests. Unlike modern chemistry, which grew out of alchemy, the ancient art is heavily spiritual. Alchemists may have been the first ones to try out their ideas by devising experiments, but because of their intensely metaphysical purposes and beliefs, alchemists did not develop modern scientific methods.

Alchemy never separated itself from the supernatural, the magical and the superstitious. Perhaps that is why it is still popular, even though it has accomplished practically nothing of lasting value. Alchemists never transmuted metals, never found a panacea, and never discovered the fountain of youth.

Some alchemists did make contributions to the advancement of knowledge, however. For example, Paracelsus (1493-1541) introduced the concept of disease to medicine. He rejected the notion that disease is a matter of imbalance or disharmony in the body, even though this view is favored by modern alchemists. Instead, Paracelsus maintained that disease is caused by agents outside of the body which attack it. He recommended various chemicals to fight disease.

Alchemy continues to prosper among the anti-scientific. Robin Murphy, for example, has joined alchemy with homeopathy, qigong and astrology to create his own brand of alternative medicine. The Alchemical Institute advertises Alchemical Hypnotherapy for those seeking a New Age empowerment therapy based on occult pseudoscience.

The so called Alchemically produced essences never had undergone any evidence based clinical trials. In most countries like in Australia, New Zealand , besides, Europe and USA these are sold as nutritional supplements.

Personally I believe like some old texts on religion the sacred alchemical texts are required to be rewritten as with advances in human culture and science these  century old traditional texts or methods are required to be updated. But I know if  anyone tries to do this , he will be banned or buried  by the community.

Question: If someone wishes to confront your version?

Kundu : Our journal will publish such arguments unedited, if supported by documentary evidence of clinical trials of the alchemical medicines.

Question: tell us more about Electro or Spagyric Homeopathy
Kundu:   Neumerous methods of Spagyrics are prevailing, only some  like Heinz, Krauss, Pekana, Strathmeyer and Zimpel are included in German Homeopathy Pharmacopoeia ,and Zimpel, Krauss and Pekana are included in American Homeopathy Pharmacopoeia, but most methods are not included, like Bernus(Soluna Lab) Mattei ,Gliickselig(Phoenix Lab), IFAS((Institute for angewandte Spagyrik, Hanau , Germany), Lemasor, Solitaire , etc., and most important is some of the methods are patented like the Mattei Spagyrics, and as according to available informations the Mattei family has not disclosed it's patented method yet.

During September 2008 in the conference organized by Mattei Archieve, Bologna, Italy, much discussions were held on this topic,  Countess Giana Fadda Mattei also announced that her family is examining the possibilities to produce again those patented medicines, only time could tell us the fate of  this promise!!

Question: Whether you support the move of the so called Electrohomeopaths to 'snatch' official recognition from Indian Health Ministry?

Kundu: First, the concerned people should decide which Electrohomeopathic school they would like to represent, If they prefer to stick  to Mattei, then they must obtain the patented ‘secret’ method from Mattei family. Because for the other schools at least the methods are not secret, and hence well accepted by the scientific community.

Secondly, it is the headache of Union health ministry whether they accept Electro or spagyric homeopathy a science eligible for individual or separate  recognition or accept as a school of Homeopathy , which the Germany and U.S.A. had already done by including it in the respective official Homeopathy pharmacopoeias. In fact if we look into the books of the veterans like Kent and Boericke there are enough evidences that this Electro or spagyric is a school of Homeopathy.

Question: Any suggestions to overcome this non availability of method/formulas  for Mattei  system?

Kundu: Indian Electro or Spagyric Homeopathy could be a possibility, because in Siddha as well as Ayurveda there are evidences of alchemical preparations , it is a school of Ayurveda called Rasasastra, and literally it means purification of the metal : mercury, but actually, it is a science of making minerals assimilable for the body so they can be used as medicines. But, I have never heard of any herbal alchemical preparation in Siddha or Ayurveda.

As we know alchemy is the mother of modern chemistry and in both Ayurveda and Homeopathy some alchemical methods are incorporated, like for making Rasasindura in Ayurveda and Hepar sulph  in homeopathy, for example.  Peter Morrell has also explained how homeopathy is evolved from Alchemy in his scholarly article “ Hahnemann’s debt to Alchemy” but if anyone says that this System Mattei  or Electrohomeopathy is based upon alchemy, let me quote Mattei 'If I explain what vegetal electricity really consists, it would seem to be alchemy' , in other words Mattei tried to explain that his method may have certain similarities with alchemical procedures but he stressed it is not alchemy.
